Installing XP

This may be a bit naive, but where do you get the serial number for installing XP? At some point I will have to activate the OS.

Please help!

i just purchased hp6205 @ CC and would love to install XP on this machine, but very limited in this dept. i wouldn't know where to begin! i do have XP purchased legally and ordered extra 1GB memory. Tripower suggested that i do F10 and so on, do i do that when Vista OP is trying to boot or what? can somebody give me direction on how to do this from scratch? this computer is so slow with Vista, it's driving me crazy! also do i need all the said drivers from my other computer before i install the XP? appreciate all the help i can get!

HP sucks so Does Microsoft

Hi. Thank you to the "angel" who provided the links for the driver for the 6205. I have been using lap tops close to ten years now, and they have always been a Dell. Just for a change i wanted to try a HP, and i got kicked right in the groin for it. To top it off Vista is still new, so it's forgivable on microsofts front, but HP is so very irresponsible, cause when i called in their tech service they said i should have no problems running vista or xp, and their tech returned my machine with a copy of Xp. And when i said there was not any audio or video drivers' the response was "oh, you need audio?" GOSH!

Well anyway now i am going through the hassles of owning a clone lap top cause have to do all the drivers setup myself, although i paid premium price to have a branded notebook to avoid that hassle in the first place. No wonder HP when down under and had to merge with compaq.

Well - I must thank you all for this... I have an even better adventure - install XP Pro AND then installing a Russian MUI and praying it will work...

First unless you have some compelling reason just go to the BIOS and disable SATA.

1. F10 | System Config | SATA Native Support | [Disable] | [Save]
2. Load XP
3. Load XP SP 2
4. Go to the link below and download the drivers for the dv6205
5. First you are going to need the Network Card (ntelPro100) drivers or you aren't going to be able to do jack. Oh, and you are going to have to put it on a CD from another computer because your network card isn't working and neither is your USB, so forget the thumb drive.
6. Most of the drivers that I loaded were from the dv9000 site (I am assuming they have the same board).
7. (dv9000) Network, Video, Chipset, Card Reader, Wireless (dv6000)FaxModem, Audio
8. With the Audio load the 'Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio' before the 'Conexant High Definition Audio Driver'
9. Don't bother with the Bluetooth or TV Card drivers the dv6205 has none.
10. You'll notice between the dv6000-dv9000 site that most of these are the same downloads.
11. Any error corrections or additions please post.

I think I have located the drivers for the HP dv6205
dv9000 drivers:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1842189&lang=en

dv6000 drivers:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1842155&lang=en

XP is fully loaded and works great.
Oh, and a special thanks to HP and MS for making life difficult for ALL OF US!

Hi! Like others I joined the Techspot forums because of the great information in this thread, thanks everyone especially 'tripower'.
I have completed the change to W'XP on the HP Pavillion DV6205US (purchased from Circuit City) and am very pleased with the results. I just have one wee problem - I cannot track down the driver for the Integrated 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 connector). The Wi-Fi works, albeit a little slow, at 11Mbps but when booting Windows the drivers for the hard wire LAN cannot be found and shows up in the device manager with a 'yellow ?'. I would appreciate any help with this, many thanks.

Put XP into Pavilion dv6205+++

I have just about everything you would need to convert your HP6200 through 9000 from VISTA to XP and then back again all on one CD with BIOS ups for 6205 and XP SP2 and SP2ups for that. It includes all shortcuts from my grueling trial and error two day set up that will save your hours of time. XP works so much faster you will be totally impressed. The CD is free for pick up. Just go to my site knrforensic.com or email me direct at ken@knrforensic.com Or call 2485578276 to pick one up. It is so simple I do not provide help however. Instructions are on the CD. Good Luck.

Update On My XP Pro Install in A New DV9000:

It has been several weeks since I successfully installed XP Pro on a Vista Ultimate equipped HP dv9000 series (not a dv9xxx designation because this machine was custom built to order from HP directly), and I have no complaints at all. Thanks again to those who first dropped the hint of turning off "SATA Native Support" in the BIOS... the XP install would've been impossible to do otherwise. Virtually all of the drivers were gotten from HP's site *except the intel pro 100 drivers which I had to download from Intel and burn onto CD using another machine* There is still an unknown PCI device in the hardware manager that ismissing it's driver; I don't even know what device that is since everything I've been using seems to be in working order, even the HP Pavilion Web Cam functions perfectly.

I still have the hard drive which the machine originally shipped with Vista Ultimate (I did not re-format it to install XP, I opted to simply buy another WD SATA drive instead) in storage and may be using it when the first service pack for Vista comes out... we shall see.

plz help

sir please!!!!my man please help me......i cnt install sound in my dv6205us nd thr is one more issue tht bus controller!!!!!!!!!!!!please help its getting on my nerves......

the best place to get the drivers for your HP notebook is from HP's site itself.
http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-002&h_lang=en&h_cc=us&h_product=321957&h_page=hpcom&cc=us&lang=en&h_client=S-A-R163-1
Click on that link, enter the model notebook or PC you are working with and then select the OS you are using.

It appears that they recently added the appropriate Intel Pro drivers too, so no more searching through Intel's site for the right driver.

with the notebooks, you absolutely MUST install the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio (sp32646) drivers first before anything else once the OS is installed successfully.

Have you just not read any of the posts? This is all about getting XP on the dv6205. There are no useful drivers for the dv6205. That is why you have to hunt them down from other HP laptops running the same chipsets.

How is everyone doing with these drivers? Bump.

I am still struggling with getting the LAN drivers working on my 9000. I've tried a bunch of different ones with no luck at all.
