Does RAM affect FPS?

  1. just going to ask something really quick does ram actualy effect fps or it doesnt have anything to do with fps means only a new gfx card can fix my pc?

    Ram will give you very little to no increase in fps.

    As you said the best way to get a good fps boost is to upgrade your graphics card.

    I second that. A new gfx card is the way to go. Figure out your budget, go to Tom's Hardware, see which cards fit your budget, and read the reviews there,, on AnandTech, Techspot, and other reputed sites.

    Well, although Ram will not really effect your fps..If you run out of ram space, your computer will start to write to your hard disk instead...which in most cases will cause a lot of lag - which can be preceived as a low fps. System Specs would help.

    As Matt12345170 stated above, FPS will only be affected by RAM should you run out of it during a game and it defaults to writing data to the hard disk.

    That aside, if you have 4GB+ it should make no real impact on gaming performance.

    Your systems specs, as well as the power supplies total wattage and the games your experiencing problems with would help us greatly narrow down the cause of your problems though.
