  1. Win 98 has the little icon of 2 computers communicating in the tray. It will show connection speed and time online. Does Win 2000 Pro have this? If so, how is put into the tray?

show icon in notification area when connected

I think what you are wanting is to turn on “show icon in notification area when connected”
I haven’t used win 2000 for some time but if you can find your “internet connections” right click on the icon for the connection that you are using to find its “properties”

Then just click in the box “show icon in notification area when connected”

I hope this points you in the right direction

To be exact: My Network Places | Properties | Local Area Connection | Properties and click the 'Show icon...' box.
