I've just come to realise that I don't think my Maxtor is running as fast as it could using ATA133.

The BIOS reports it as an ATA133 drive. However in device manager its reported as using "Ultra DMA Mode". Even my second slave drive reports "Ultra DMA Mode 2" correctly.

Is there something here i'm missing?

Ultra ATA133 is not much if any faster than ATA100 because the current technology cannot support it.

Sounds like your bios is correctly detecting the hard drive, and yes I do believe XP supports faster hard drives, its just the software that's lagging.

Another thing, you might need ATA133 cables, I don't know if they make a difference in ATA100 and ATA133 cables. I wouldn't worry about it too much though.

ATA66 are ATA100 are ATA133 cables - 80 conductor 40 pin IDE cables.
