  1. I was just wondering if all of the downloads in the downloads pages are scanned and not malicious software. Does TechSpot do this before they allow it to be posted?

    Ya I was planning on downloading something but I wanted to make sure my computer wouldn't get destroyed when I installed it.

    Daemon Tools Lite was a false positive. It did contain adware, bundled software on the installer (see Opencandy), but not what you'd right out call malware.

    Indeed, our intent is not to become a download portal of anything and everything out there, but we only list software that we believe is potentially useful to our audience. That means a lot of the software listed is reputable and known, and we scan things using VirusTotal regularly or when in doubt.

    Having that said, we are in the process or automating all download scanning through with a partnership with AVG. Hopefully that's coming in a few more weeks, all transparent to the user.
