Didou... thanks for the pics.

That Zalman heatpipe is one honking unit!!! It weighs about 3/4 of a pound!! Should I be concerned that it will over time bend/break my video card? Is there a way to separately support the card other than the screwed in plate at the back?

Once installed, how does one know if the thing is really working?

Is the removal of the current heatsink/fan on the Abit Siluro GF4 Ti4200-8X 128MB a simple task?? Given that these cards may have a general quality issue (seems like a lot are requiring RMA's) besides the noisy fan, can I remove the OEM heatsink/fan, install the Zalman unit and then later reinstall the OEM unit back to it's original state so that any warranty issues would be honoured?

Weight shouldn't be a problem provided your card is well seated in the AGP slot & that you don't move your case around too often. If you go to a LAN or move to another place, always make sure the card hasn't shifted out of the slot before turning the machine on.

To know if it's working, you can touch the upper part of the heatsink. If it's warm/hot, that means it's doing a good job driving the heat from the GPU to the lower part of the heatsink & from there to the upper part of the heatsink ( thx to the Heatpipe ). I tend to think that a warm heatsink is a good sign of heat transfer, contrarly to some people.;)

Most GF4 cards ( I don't know about the MX ones ) have the heatsink attached to the PCB with a push-pins which are generally easy to remove.

Now for some reason, certain brands still feel the need to use Thermal adhesive, maybe to keep people from removing the Fan & installing a different one. I do believe you void your warranty once you remove the original fan though, I'm not sure.

Once you remove the fan the warrenty expires.
For the unhocking of the fan, on my XFX GF4 TI 4200 you can unhock it without breaking a sweat:grinthumb

Greets Crazy,

I don't know to much about how things work, but I would like to set up two monitors on my computer, if anyone can help please do. thanks:)
