dvd burner on my laptop will read all the dvds i have burnt and movies i have bought but it will not read rental dvds all the time i have cleaned it several times and uninstalled and reinstalled most recent drivers. when i put a rental dvd in it acts like it is trying to read it then it starts making a skipping noise and stops and player acts as if there is no dvd in it. i am starting to think there is a new copy protection keeping burners from reading rental dvds or my drive is toast any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

rentals can either be badly scratched or abused therefore hard to read. Also rentals sometimes have additional copy protection.

Try getting better rentals.

Thx for reply, but rental DVD condition is fine these are brand new releases. Maybe it is a new form of copy protection keeping burners from reading rentals. Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated

I am considering buying a new multi drive for this laptop. Since this one does not seem to want too read new DVDs when i need it too. Does anyone have recommendations on what brand is best?
