Dvd drive trouble

i've got a real challenging problem here. my dvd drive honestly believes that the blank dvd's i put in are blank cd's. i keep telling it that they are not cd's but it will not listen to me. i tried calling dell support, but they didn't help me any. they wanted me to reinstall windows and loose everything. something i just can't do right now. i would be very appreciative if anyone knows how to fix this.

It may be a problem witht he Windows file system. try this to fix it. go to device manager and under "IDE ATA\ATAPI Controllers" find the IDE channel that the DVD Drive is on and uninstall that channel. then reboot, windows will automatically reinstall the IDE channel and the drive when it reboots.
