DVD drives causing computer lag

Hello There
I was wondering if I can get some help.
My problem I'm having is When I run one or two DVDs, copying information from the DVDs to hard drive, the computer lags.
It's almost the same, when you are playing a game that your video card can not handle.
The Lag even effects, surfing the web.
Is there a solution where I can run the DVDs and not have the lag.

Hi, there are no exclamation points. I also update the firmware to see if that was the problem, still no luck. Thanks for your help, I'm going to purchase a new DVD drive, one with 2mb cache. The one I have is only 1mb cache, maybe couple 16gig flash drives and use them for ready-boost.. Well Thanks for all your help.
