the dvd-rw in my laptop is recognized by my system, and by all burning programs I have tried, but will not read any cds/dvds', or show any files to be on a cd when you open it(under "my computer". It will(after a few tries) boot off of a windows cd. I bought the laptop, which is hp pavilion zv5000, not too long ago, and dvd-rw worked fine. I have installed windows a couple of times since then, and now I have this problem. I don't have very much knowledge on laptops. Could this have something to do with a "user interface" or something like that? In system, it says to be working fine, and that drivers are installed. Any help would be great!

Laptop optical drives fail much more often than desktop opticals because of vibration, heat and general knocking around. PC's don't suffer as bad as laptops do. Have your CD/DVD combo burner replaced
