I've a feeling the drive's on its last legs, but I just want to know I've explored all possible options to try and fix it before I actually replace it. It's been struggling for a while now to read discs, reinstalling the driver last week seemed to fix it briefly, but it's given up again today. Tried reinstalling the driver, to no avail, checked the cables were in properly, unplugged it, plugged it back in again. Still won't read anything. Or, if it does, it's not showing up. Device manager's not showing up any problems with it. Is there anything I haven't tried? Does it sound salvageable? Or should I just go ahead and replace it?

I would just replace it. You can get a 20x dvd burner with lightscribe for less than $30.

I suppose you could use a cd lens cleaner disk on it to see if that helps.
