So i new here and someone's most likely posted something like this before but i still need help. my directx tools arent working properly and i have no idea how to fix them or where to start. I have a Windows XP home edition and this is what my dxdiag says:

Display Tab: Devices

Manufacturer: n/a

Chip Type: n/a
DAC: n/a
Approx. TM: n/a
Current Display Mode 1024x768(32bit) (1hz)

Driver: vga.dll

Version: 5.01.2600.0000(English)
WHQL Logo'd: Yes
Mini VDD: vga.sys
VDD: n/a
DDI Verison: unknown
(also all of the directx acceleration are listed as Not Available and in the note box it says the following)

The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.
To test DirectDraw functionality, click the "Test DirectDraw" button above.
Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer.

What does all this mean someone please help me.

Driver: vga.dll means you are using the basic Windows XP VGA driver to run your graphics.

If you have on-board or add-on graphics capability, then you need to install the drivers for that.

You can check your DirectX functions by clicking Start, then Run, then enter dxdiag in the box and pressing enter.

It will assess your system - once that is done, click the DirectX Files tab and look at the 'Notes' section - what's it got to say?

how do i know what kind of drivers to install? earlier today i downloaded a directx upgrade and it didnt change a thing.

Well, you probably don't need a DX 'upgrade' if it reported No Problemo!

You need graphics chip/card drivers.

Identify what your chip/card is using that same dxdiag entry and look under Display.

its as if my diag knows absolutely nothing

Download and run Everest Home (it is free):

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

Once you download it, click on it and let it install and then run it from the icon on your desktop and then click on 'Display' then on 'GPU', then go to the VERY top of the screen and click on 'report', then 'quick report-gpu' and then 'plain text' and save it then go to C:/programs/lavalys and open that folder then open Everest Home folder and then reports and click on the report which will open it in a text editor and then use your mouse to highlight ALL the 'registers' stuff at the bottom of the report and delete it and then save that file again and then copy and paste it to here.

its says they have discontinued the free version. my diag under devices says The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer. only none of the manufacters are listed on my diag

i read on here somewhere about my maybe needing to open my computer and seeing what it says inside but i dont know what to look for
