EA is reportedly considering turning Battlefield 2042 into a free-to-play model

In my opinion, if you create a game with just multiplayer in mind, it is just a matter of time before you may need to make it cheap, or turn it into some free to play game (and make money through selling skins and such). There are tonnes of multiplayer shooters out there and despite the better graphics, I don't really think BF stood out in a positive way.

Thats not really the right comparison. BC2 looked better than BF3, it also had WAY better animations and destruction.
Go further back to BF2, in this game you could do much, much more than any BF game that came after it, things like 2 man planes, mod tools, gigantic maps.
