Elite External Serial Modem Problem

Help!! Am using a Elite external serial modem to connect to XP Windows and it will not detect the modem. I have enabled Com 1 on the Bios, but I have no drivers for the modem so I have installed the standard 56k modem driver, it is still saying cannot detect modem. Do I need to find a driver on the web to install or is it a bios thing. I have installed a new com port also to install the Elite external modem. I used all my PCI slots that's why I am using external modem.

Hope someone can help me install serial modem.

Thanks

Is this modem the ZyXEL Elite 2864 ?

User's Guide
Latest firmware V3.02, V90

The User's Guide should help you with installation.
Make sure the front panel D/V (Data / Voice) switch is set correctly.

If your computer has 2 serial ports enable both and see if the OS detects the modem.
This modem has two 25 pin connectors on the back panel. It can be connected to your computers parallel port or serial port the top connector is the parallel port (the gender is different for each).
Parallel port DB25 male connector, Centronics compatible port.
Serial port DB25 female connector.

Make sure your using a good quality (modem) serial cable. Not all cables are made for modems and do not pass the modem control channels (PNP).
