EMachine as a Gift: What Can I Do With It?

Hi everyone. I'm not trying to be facetious but someone wants to give me their old e-Machine for free and I want to know whether to accept it. I've heard of 'em but never seen one. Is it like a regular PC? Can I build web sites and use the e-Machine to upload to the internet? He told me that the machine is pretty old. Originally had Win98 on it but his son put XP on it. They don't know enough about computers to tell me about the processor speed, HD size or RAM so I'm shooting in the dark.

Just so you have an idea why I'd even consider such a thing, it's because I have to return my Dell Vostro 1000 laptop and won't have a computer after that. Why do I have to return the Dell? Because I'm having major financial problems and need the money.

So, I'd appreciate your advice about the eMachine? Thank you.

It's hard to know without the specs

But anything that works on the Internet, and has Word processing power is OK

I say take it!

Yep, old or not, it ought to handle basic web/word processing applications just fine.

Old system > non-existent system...
