Enter password screen?

I got a friends computer, his wife died and he can't get into her laptop. It's a Toshiba Satellite C850D laptop. With Windows 8. Turned it on and Toshiba Screen turns on but then it goes straight to a enter password screen that looks like bios. I can't enter bios either. I tried Offline Password & registry editor but it does nothing. Any ideas? Windows never even starts. If this is a Bios Password and I take the battery out to reset it. Will all his info stored still be there? Thanks for the help!

Thx for your reply, I took the hard drive out connected it to my comp. as an external and got the info he wanted. I never did get the bios password to work. I even tried to short the mobo like I read other places and it didn't work . My friend told to just keep the laptop and scrap it out .
