GPD is around $1000 for i7/16GB RAM/1TB nVME + dock included + Win10 licence ... I would say that is really comparable :-D
Not saying it's better, but considering every option and feature, they are much closer to each other.

TBH I did not expect you will be comparing base Deck with eMMC to fully spec. GPD.

No even top spec it's basically half. The only reason anyone compares GPD to Steam Deck is because they're the same form factor, once you look at pricing, the GPD just looks terrible.

I've kept up with them, OpenPandora, and a few others through the years but when you dig into the details of a new product there's always a deal breaker. This Steam Deck so far looks to be the closest to the ideal I'm looking for.

They're not really worth talking about though. Yes, they are cool, but the pricing makes them pointless.

You can install anything on the Steam Deck. You can literally install windows and install EGS.

Yes, my comment was to those who would never use EGS. Personally I buy the game where I can get it the cheapest.

This device is for enthusiasts who probably felt a need to hold their games (literally) in a pocket. If I had all the money in the world, I would check this, only to satisfy the curiosity of how does it go, to have PC grade games, with their intended hw budgets, go into such device... Which is not bad.
Games in coop would work great, for example overcooked 2, or maybe even Worms (from team17)
I wonder if the performance is enough for every game in the library?
The screen resolution is kind of the best choice. Something like 1080p would make it sluggish.
Fortnite would probably sell this, but epic needs to show support.

Of course their views on what is hateful and "dangerous" changes with the wind, just like Sweeny's opinon on whether the PC platform is a shining gem or a dying vine.
