Error message installing XP Home

  1. was tring to install windows xp home edition, i keep getting an error message when it get to installing windows. every time i reboot it starts up at the installation page telling me to do it again then same thing occurs. i tried to do a memory test v it gave me an error message on the drive error 4e it said the drive didn't respond. I NEED HELP PLEASE HOW DO I START MY COMPUTER AND SEE MY ICONS AGAIN HELP PLEASE I NEED MY COMPUTER FOR WORK HELP PLEASE.

    can you boot into Safe Mode; boot and start tapping F8 until the b/w screen shows up

    no i can't it just keep going to the install screen for my windows xp home edition
