Error message WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM on Windows startup

I think I could repair this if I had the XP setup disk, but I don't. is there any way I could replace/repair this file without it, or am I going to have to buy a new disk?

First task is to get a CD that can boot - - even a Linux CD like Knoppix.

Once the CD boots, you can access the existing HDD

and from there, copy the files as directed in the link shown which will allow the system
to boot windows

but then you need to get the correct registry files restored from a System Restore Point
to complete the task.
