ESXi won't communicate to vSphere

Now, I work here at the school as a Work Study. The SST here and I have made an ESXi server to be linked to vSphere on a seperate computer. First we were having Network problems with the two Virtual Machines I had set up (Windows 8 and Server 2012). One day the server got shut down the wrong way (via button at front of computer) and now I can ping the router and get a response, but I ping the server and get nothing. Did something get messed up when we force shut downed the server? Or am I missing something?

Should not have. check both client & server firewalls & if the TCP settings on the NICs disable ping reply

[edit] get command prompt and ask external DNS to resolve

nslookup 8.8.8.8  8.8.4.4

That's using one google dns to report on the other
which proves connectivity to / thru your gateway
