Explorer.exe spike

  1. Whenever I run windows explorer, the explorer.exe file spikes in the amount of ram it needs and eventually eats up all available ram and slows the system to a crawl. If I close the windows explorer, it goes back to normal. I have run search and destroy, Ad Aware and a full system virus scan with no results. Even if I boot in safe mode and run the file manager, the explorer.exe still spikes.

    Without opening anything, explorer.exe is consuming about 109,600K of RAM. After I run Windows Explorer it shoots up to 200,000K. When I close windows explorer, it goes back 100,000K or so.

    Those tools are good SpyBot and Adaware but no match for the below

    Do the TechSpot 8 steps:

    Skip no steps (do not install another virus scanner if you already have one, ask me before installing a Firewall).

    Most importantly update MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSptware!

    Once we are positive we are clean then we will use one of these tools to finish your issue with Explorer!
