Is it really normal that explorer.exe eats up a lot of memory? currently it tells me that it used 44,432K of memory, I saw it through task manager. Is this normal? How am I suppose to lessen this?

You can reduce it, by removing as many non needed services as possible (including Startups, right click menus, running programs... ) a whole range of possibilities to optimize, even in the registry.
