External hard disk issue

i've bought a external harddisk 500GB (2.5 inch), when i want to copy the movie (blueray) from my laptop to external hd, it prompted up a msg said that "no enough space", asked me to do disk clean up. Beside i've noticed that while copying or moving file that more than 4GB, the problem mentioned above will occur. I don't why and pls tell me whether is harddisk problem or there's other issues.

Please provide the following information:

Operating system that you are running;
Brand and model of the hard drive.

Please do the following: if you go in "My Computer" with external HDD connected, right click on the icon of external HDD and click properties, you should see the type of the file system. If it reads FAT32, it means that file system cannon handle files bigger than 4 GB.

Ok many thanks, i've coverted the file system to NTFS, now it able to handle files bigger than 4GB
