External hard drive crash

I have the infamous Lacie 250gb external hard drive. It no longer registers anywhere on the computer. Is there anything I can do to recover the files. They are really important files and I would hate to lose them.

External USB HardDrive?
Have you tried plugging into another computer (just in case your USB ports have an issue)

yes I have tried. It's a usb. My ports are all good. Tried on many computers. Lacie externals apparently are not good at all. On the inside it is a ide hard drive. I tried connecting that to my desktop. No good either. The computer doesnt see the drive at all. But the drive makes noise.

Damn not even on internal IDE
Have you tried both Master and Cable Select settings ?
So CMOS does not see the drive at all? or Windows (from the Operating system HardDrive)
