External Hard Drive Question

I am having some major problems with my external hard drive I just bought. I have a Western Digital My Book Essential Edition 500 GB. When I plug it into my USB port it recognizes it and I click to install it and after it searches for 'my book' a message pops up saying that it 'can't install this hardware -- The hardware was not installed because the wizard can not find the necessary software.' Is there anything else I can do???

No, I did not get a CD with the hard drive.

Go to Western Digitals support site and see if there is any install or drivers available. You might check their FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)
