External HDD used for HDTV not showing up on laptop

My friend in Japan has a Toshiba Regza hdtv with usb recording function.
Recently she helped me record a program that I wanted to watch. However, when she tried plugging the external hdd that she used for the tv to her laptop, it doesn't show up at all (i.e in windows explorer, it doesn't show up)

After digging around for a while, we found this:
- the drive shows up when we go to My computer - properties - Device Manager, and it says the device is working properly
- So we went to Computer Management (My computer - Manage) to try to assign the drive to a letter. But when opening it, while we could also see the drive under disk management, we can't do anything (on right-click, all menu are disabled)
- On the "Status" field, it says (Healthy - GPT Protective Partition)

I've tried digging around and it seems it could be this GPT Protection bit that is causing the issue, but can't find any solution
Could someone help?
