External HDD Xbox 360 drive recognition (deleted autorun files?)

How do i get my external hdd recognised by my xbox 360. it used to work until i deleted some of the factory files. its a western digital elements hdd not that it should really matter i'm thinking the files were the equivalent of autorun i've checked the manufacturers website to no avail.

Fix:
Step 1: Connect the drive to a powered on computer.
Step 2 NV*: Get a recovery program.
Step 2 V**: Drive not recognized: Stop reading this, and get help with the drive. We will now assume no problems came into play.
Step 3: Run the recovery program.
Step 4 NV: Recover the files.
Step 4 V: Files aren't there: Stop reading this, and get help with the drive. We will now assume no problems came into play.
Step 5: Reconnect the drive to the 360.
Step 6 NV: Use the drive.
Step 6 V: It doesn't work: Stop reading this, and get help with the drive.
* NV= No Variable.
** V= Variable.
A variable is something that can go wrong.
