Facebook and Skype planning deep integration

Facebook is teaming up with Skype to deliver SMS and voice/video chat using Facebook Connect, according to a report by All Things Digital. The supposed announcement will reveal a major partnership between Facebook and Skype to deeply integrate the two services. Skype adding Facebook Connect will mean users being able to quickly call their Facebook contacts and initiate Facebook video chats from within Skype.

Facebook, which has a population of some 500 million, is interested in giving users stronger communication tools in order to tighten up its community: even more users using the social network even more often. Skype, which already has 124 million people using it monthly and 560 million registered users, is also interested in getting a usage boost.

Skype 5, the first version with an added Facebook tab, is set to arrive in a few weeks. The new version is currently in beta testing right now, but Facebook integration has yet to make an appearance. It would be equally interesting if Skype calling and texting could be built into Facebook, as an optional feature of course, but nothing like that has been disclosed.

Bah, Facebook which is such a massive time-sink, is now coming to Skype - a program I use for productivity 80% of the time.

tell me those are not real phone numbers in the pic!!

this partnership will not affect me in any way shape or form, so i don't really have an opinion.

Another great avenue for video porn, tickle me I think Im dreaming...! Bah, as if!

I'm running the Skype beta at the moment. I run my Skype so that the chat window is separated from my chat windows. Every time I boot up Skype, I get this home window, which is supposed to feed me news updates and such. It's very annoying, and at the moment there's no way to prevent the window from popping up.
I use both Skype and Facebook, but I really don't want my Facebook updates to show up on Skype. If I could chat to people on Facebook through Skype... that would be amazing.

They are very real! The internet never lies!

Don't mess with my Skype, Facebook. It's just fine without you coming in and screwing it all up.

Hmm. I love Skype. but Facebook is such a waist of time to me. I don't want people trying to add my Skype account to there list from Facebook in any way shape or forum. well. this may not be bad for some. Make it so that no Facebook user can find you if the option is set and I'll be happy. but if I get popups for info I don't care about. then.... what am I saying everything I use gets butchered in one way or another. Just don't make it messy I guess.

Bringing Skypein to Canada would be nice at least....

I probably would not use Skype at all if Facebook started with video-chat. Hopefully this merge will come to something like this!

If you look at the phone numbers you can see they are all 555 numbers. 555 being the "advertising and tv" numbers that are now in use. Before they switched to the 555 standard people would see a number, say to themselves "I've got an idea" and call the person. So nope, those are fake numbers. And really why would you wanna call someone in Mississippi? 601 area code, no thank you!

This is purely to fend off the google voice integration into gmail. Things are getting interesting

Probbly why facebook will not allow me to proceed to my home page without giving up my phone number. several of my freinds ( one who confessed he has multiple accounts on facebook ) told me they were never asked for there phone number however me being a new member ( 2 weeks ) have been asked to provide my number to inshure each facebook member is real.

Sadly for me there is no link where i can click to tell those who are in power what they can do with getting members real phone number!

Not to worry. The 555 prefix doesn't exist. That's why they use it in every television show and movie. The only 555 prefix that exists is (area code) 555-1212 which is operator assisted information for each area code.
