Far Cry, Best Singleplayer FPS Ever?

It's true about video card memory. I was duped first time around buying a 128mb 9200se because it has 128mb of memory, it ran perhaps a tad faster than my 32mb video card. Chipsets make a big difference. I was going to buy a 256mb ATI Radeo X700 Pro for my new computer, when I did some reading. I actually went for a 128mb nVidia GeForce 6600GT instead, and wow does it handle the graphics of whatever I throw at it, at high settings. Far Cry, Doom III, Half Life II, BF Vietnam all on the highest settings run smooth. Just do some reading of reviews, memory is not the sole reason to get a new card. Look at bandwidth (64bit or 256 bit), core clock speed, effective memory clockspeed, actual structure of the card (vertical pipelines), even the heatsink fan. 256mb does not necessarily mean good.

To tell you guys the truth, I dont know whats all the hype about Far Cry.
I have playd it and its only a o.k game. Nothing groundbreaking.

Half-Life 2

Yeah, after playing HL2, Far Cry cannot even compare to HL2 as far as variation in gameplay and story. But Far Cry is still beautiful in many areas, especially the outdoor scenes.

I thought Jack would get to "do" Val at the end for sure. What a ****ty ending.

Full agreement with (=DoM=)

Far Cry is an absolutely stunning game. I've played through several times since the game came out in early 2004 and I've enjoyed it every single time. Currently playing through on Veteran skill level with a newer pc and it looks and plays great. Full settings on 1280 x 1024, including custom anisotropic filtering set through the system.cfg, using a dual-core 4800 Athlon and SLi configuration GeForce 7800GTX.

I always thought the best single player game was Doom II, but I'm a very weird guy. :approve: Also, since it's so incredibly easy to mod, it adds fuel to the flame.

Weird guy...

Doom II was great. I still have a play at all 3; Ultimate Doom, Doom II and Final Doom from time to time - they look like crap but they're still fun, lol.

Yes, I agree FarCry is quite good.
I hold games like Doom3 and Half-Life2 at a higher standard.
Also I feel cheated, because there is a much improved version of FarCry we will never see on PC, called FarCry: Instincts, solely for Xbox.
It has much better stealth, and it has new abilities called 'feral abilities', because it seems to go off on an alternate path where you are captured by the commandos and you play as a feral half-tryjan in this one!!!
Its so cool!

I've had Far Cry for a couple of months now. Haven't installed it yet, but I've had it for a couple of months. :) Perhaps it's time.

*ratatatataa* ... silence.
/me jumps out of the corner, activates bullet time and shoots 3 mobs into their face with his double desert eagles. *pampampampampampam*...
.. i can hear some footsteps further down the gangway.. i grab my grenade.. pull the splint, and a couple of seconds later.. *b00000000000m* two corpses flying into my direction right by the egocam.. another one gets smashed to the wall on my left.
i grab my ak-47 and keep running through the apartmenthouse shooting pointlessly for no reason. *ratatatatatatata* *pouwpouwpouw*

....

uh.. eh farcry?

oh .. k. 0_x

As much as I enjoyed FarCry, I'd still have to say that Half Life 2 is by far the best single player FPS I've ever played. There was just something so special and mezmerizing about it. Don't get me wrong, I loved FarCry, but HL2 takes the cake.

Since I haven't play FEAR, Quake4, basically all the newest FPS I would have to agree that HL2 is the best I have played. FEAR would probably win if I ever felt like playing it.
