I don't think this is a folder you created. What's the name of the folder? What's inside the folder? What is the location of the folder?

It seems to me that I have seen this before, but where? A phantom program created the file and the only way I got rid of it, was to format the drive. Could this phantom file folder have been created by something from AOL or Symantec?

From what dustinl15 has said, it`s a folder he created himself.

So your guess is as good as mine.

    Regards Howard :)

We know nothing is inside the folder

We know that dustinl15 said he created the folder

We don't know where the folder is located

We don't know the folder name that reappears when the reappearing folder reappears :)

    Can you answer us dustinl15?

You mentioned above about read-only status.. check that you have correct permissions and maybe uncheck that box with read-only and try deleting?

The location may help in finding out some more info about the folder like howard's asked you eg C:\windows\user\new folder etc.

If you're up to it and you are cleared of malware/etc by howard then you can try search the registry to see if that folder is being listed as a system/shell folder and hence recreating itself (possibility?)

EDIT: hmm.. didnt see the second page :\.. maybe give him some time, he might've gone to bed or something already..

The folder is located in "My Documents" it is called "Classes" and it is empty, no hidden files either.
I have checked the permissions and I have all the correct permissions assigned to me.

    Exact Location is C:\Documents and Settings\linddus\My Documents\Classes

When it comes back it's name is Classes even if I change it then redelete it. It puts in back in the My Documents folder.

N3051M: you said something about the registry, where would I look for that at in the registry, I have done a malware clean up but it didn't find anything.

Just be carefull not to delete anything, and backup [file>export] before you delete or change something, to be on the safe side..

    Start>Run>regedit
CTRL+F (find)> then type in the key you want to look for. Sometimes there may be multiple entries/same word association so hit F3 to go to the next find. try typing in the whole directory first and if it comes up with zilch then try my documents\classes etc.

    Its just a guess...

Ok, I tried that and I only pulled up a few things that had to do with "My Recent Documents", nothing that looked out of place.

dustin15, i am having the same problem on my computer as you are having on yours: I have an empty folder on my computer which will delete only if i unlock the file and then delete it manually. However, after i reboot the computer, it reappears. I have even carried the problem one step further.

On my computer, the folder is named "microsoft frontpage". Note that i have confirmed that this folder is NOT a byproduct of a microsoft office installation even though it seems like the most obvious explanation.

After REFORMATTING the computer, and installing a fresh copy of windows, the folder is STILL there in the same location (c:\program files\microsoft frontpage). I find this very very strange. I have discovered that the folder is being loaded during winlogon. To find this out, I:

    1) downloaded Process explorer.
    2) went to Find | Find Handle or DLL
    3) typed in the name of the file or folder (in my case microsoft frontpage) and hit search
    4) found that the process which was running it was winlogon.exe

Does your folder boot up during winlogon.exe as well? I am very curious. I think the cause of the problem is hardware-related believe it or not, but i am still scratching my head.

er, i think this folder is supposed to be there, it comes with windows XP i guess, that's what my computer salesguy said.

    sorry for the confusion.
