File sharing won't enable

  1. Hi, if I go to Network Sharing Center, then advanced settings there are two options: Turn on Network Discovery, and Turn on File and Printer sharing."

The first one is enabled, the second one (file sharing) will not enable.

I had this problem with network discovery as well, but I did some reading and found it was a problem of not having some services started.

So I assume file sharing will not enable for the same reason.

Does anyone have any ideas on what services need to be enabled?

    Thanks

what are your specs? go to the properties of your network adapter and see if it has file and printer sharing for microsoft networks enabled.

Yes, file and printer sharing is enabled in the network adapters properties. I disabled it then re-enabled it to make sure and still nothing.

    I'm running WIndows 7 Ultimate x64

You could check your service StartupType settings and look here to find the default value to see what's changed

Make sure you choose Home network, not public.
