Firewire 800

  1. Hi..

    Has anyone had any experience of Firewire 800, with either the interface cards or FW800 external Hard Drives? I'm interested to know if it's as fast as it's suggested or basically a waste of time..

    Thanks for the link, but that isn't Firewire 800 however.. I already use a FW Maxtor and find it better than USB2 but want to know if FW 800 is significantly faster.

    As an additional point, has anyone used an eSATA external yet?

    Personally, yes FW is faster, but the cables cost almost 2x the USB cost and they're expensive enough!

    If you intend to use the external FW-HD heavily, then it would be worth the expense.

    I do use the current Maxtor external FW a lot and it's approaching capacity so i'm looking to get a new one soon in addition. The other option might be to try the eSATA maybe..
