Formatting from Windows 2k to Windows XP trouble

Hello I'm having some trouble trying to format from Windows 2k to Windows XP. I placed the Windows XP CD into my computer and it did the 'preinstall'. It asked that I restart the computer at this point in which I did. It then came to the blue screen in which it asked which partition I'd like to use / delete. When I tried to delete my old partition of Windows 2k it said action denied.

Was wondering if you could help me with this so that I can get a full format / dump from Windows 2k to Windows XP.

You are best to boot from your Windows CD
ie. Don't do it from inside Windows 2000

Once the CD boots, you can remove any partitions, and install windows clean
Obviously everything on 2000 will be lost.
