Frequent computer crashing (black screen)

hi i have been having this problem for a while now. my computer is pretty old and just the other day i restored it to the "brand new" setting thinking it would resolve this issue.... well it hasn't. every time im on my computer and i run a few programs the computer will make a noise and the screen will turn black. it seems as if the computer is still on but the screen wont budge. i have to restart it by hand and repeat the process over and over. please help

It most likely is a cooling issue more then the actual Operating System. If you can keep your computer alive for enough time download and install "speedfan" which allows you to see all the tempuartures when your using it. If it is the computer overheating then you need to go inside your case and check if the fans are running, if you are not exsperienced with hardware i would advice to get someone who is to do it for you
