Fresh XP installation - won't load SP1

I am doing a fresh install of XP home edition. When I get to the installation step for loading SP1, it just sits there after putting in the proper CD and hitting enter. The CD player works fine, as I have installed it on another computer and ran it through the paces. I have tried different drive numbers, D and E. The CD with SP1 has no corruption problems and the proper files are there, with the file name XP is looking for. There is only one Hard Drive and one CD drive currently on the computer, which has an Abit NF7-S motherboard. I also have no mouse. Should I have one at this point of this installation?

Thanks

I took a guess and it worked . . . so far

I took a wild guess that it was a bad XP installation, so I repartioned the drive and did another fresh install. This time it seems to be moving along and I do have a mouse . . . we'll see.

Since XP finished at SP3, and SP3 is the only version still supported by MS, you have wasted your time updating just SP1, SP3 should install straight ontop of Xp base files.
