Not sure if I have the right forum - anyone any ideas why the remote files for a web site created with FrontPage cannot be seen with FTP access. I have tried a bog standard FTP programme as well as the routine built into Dreamweaver but always get the same result - just a folder which will not open.

this is a folder permissions issue. likely, the webserver has set that folder to
be accessed ONLY by the webserver itself (via owner/group permissions),
whereas web access is done using 'other permissions'.

This is unlikely to work as you intend anyway, as only STATIC web pages can
be accessed/downloaded using FTP. Any page which is generated (ie: dynamic)
will not run the program needed to create the browser results and thefore
even if accessed, you just get the template.

thanks for that - concise, precise and accurate!
