We have two computers in the office. One using Window XP and the other using Window 2000. The one using Window 2000 try to ftp a site but failed. The problem is we key in the user name and password as required but no files show up. The one using Window XP did the same and manage to download the files from the site. What's wrong with the computer using Window 2000?

Can some one help?

Edmond

IF you can connect to the remote site, then as the first command,
issue passive. follow that with pwd and then ls.
If this just hangs at the PWD without data, it's a server side problem.
If you get data from PWD and LS, then a GET will work also.

Thanks for your advice! What if I used the Internet Explorer to do the FTP, is there any difference between XP and 2000? If not, how come I cannot do it under Win2000?

the object of using PASSIVE is to ensure your firewall is NOT part of the problem.
if you can connect, then using passive will allow you retrieve files.
