If it was made by a major manufacturer and is relatively new (<4 years) it will probably have a recovery partition on the hard drive (same as cds). Read the manual or check by seeing what the various F1-F12 keys do on boot.. (usually F8 is safe mode, useless unless you want to attempt fixing the problem.. try F10).
