Fusion-powered 11.6" Sony Vaio YB now available in US

First available in Japan, it appears Sony's 11.6-inch Vaio YB notebook is now shipping stateside as well. US customers can order the Fusion-based ultraportable through Sony's online store and it should be available through Amazon shortly (the product page is up but it's still listed as a preorder item).

The model via Sony (VPCYB15KX/S) is priced at $600 and comes with an 1366x768 display, a dual-core 1.6GHz E-350 (Zacate) APU, on-die Radeon HD 6310 DX11 graphics core, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, and a 500GB HDD. The Amazon device (VPCYB13KX/S) is $550 with 2GB of RAM and 320GB of storage.

Connectivity includes gigabit LAN, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, three USB 2.0 ports, VGA and HDMI outputs, as well as an SD card and Memory Stick reader. Battery life is rated at six hours when running at the "default" brightness or about five and a half hours if you crank it up to the max.

The funny thing about this laptop is that is full featured. The Atom notebooks were all slim pickings compared to this. Is it because they believe the CPU is capable of that much more than the Atom OR because the Atom gave you limitations?

Thought Fusion would provide longer battery life than this..

Fusion is capable of more than 6 hours of battery life. It is the battery that is weak. It is rated as 3600mah= 3 cell. SONY is cheating us with a weak battery since they figure Fusion is so efficient. This is a deal breaker since HP fusion model offer 4400mah = 6 cell (8 hours).
