Not to be outdone by the recently-shipped Raspberry Pi, FXI has announced that their computer-on-a-USB-stick known as Cotton Candy will begin shipping later this month. The first batch to come off the assembly line will be used to fulfill preorders that were accepted in February.

The tiny PC was originally scheduled to ship in March but the company delayed the release date in order to add some new tweaks and features to the system. There is now a micro-USB port and the company opted for a more durable plastic case than the one we saw previously.

Hardware specifications include a dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor, a quad-core ARM Mali-400MP GPU, 1GB of DRAM and support for up to 64GB of storage via microSD card slot. Connectivity options include a USB 2.0 port, an HDMI port, the aforementioned micro-USB port, 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR. The computer supports Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Ubuntu.

If you don’t already have a preorder, you’re out of luck for now. FXI reps tell Laptop Mag that they aren’t accepting any new preorders as the response has already been larger than expected. Those who got their preorders in on time will soon receive an email requesting payment when the device is ready to ship.

Buyers in Norway and surrounding areas will be the first to receive their Cotton Candy computers while others will have to wait until later this summer to join in on the action.
