Gateway M675 memory upgrade problem

I have been trying to upgrade my Gateway M675 from 512MB to 2GB. The problem is when I do that my hard drive won't even turn after the initial screen. I am trying to use PNY 1GB DDR SODIMM N .

Have you tried one at a time?

Yes. I have tried one at a time in each slot. I've tried using one new 1GB along with my old 512MB. It is the recommended memory. I had looked it up and had Best Buy verify before purchase.

Well, looking at Best Buy and PNY and gateway sites I can't see a conflict except the PNY site lists 'MN' versus the Best Buy 'N' type.

Bad ram I guess.

I guess it is time to breakdown and buy a new 'puter. I just replaced the hard drive less then 4 months ago.
