Gitchy DVD burning - please help

hello,

i am a videographer and i have just finished a wedding for customers. I have edited in adobe premiere pro 1.5 and i have been using Nero quick start 6.0 for the dvd authoring and encoding. i have a dvd burner sony dru 800A and so far it has performed okay. i go to burin discs and sometimes they have gone through fine but past couple of times there have been places during the wedding that keep freezing and make it beyond watchable. now is it the encoding or the burning proces that is doing this? any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

First thing I`d try is uninstalling and reinstalling your burning software.

Maybe also try a different brand of dvd disks, and running a lense cleaner through your dvd burner.

If that doesn`t help, then try a different dvd burner.

it does sound like a media problem. what DVD media are you using and is it the same as you were using before?

Watch it in a regular dvd player, when it gets to the part that it hangs, listen and see if the player is spinning up the disk faster and thrashing a lot. If so, I would say its a media problem, if it doesn't seem to do anything I'd say its an encoding issue (doubtful).

Burn the same wedding multiple times, do all the disks hang in the same spot? If they all hang, then its either your burner screwing up at that point in the disk, some physical defect with the burner, or an encoding/mastering issue. Are these hangs happening at chapter changes?

at first i was using the Laser brand (-) and (+) discs and sometimes they worked and sometimes they didn't. but i have wasted a heap of those discs so i don't use those any more. the discs i am using now seem to be better Dysan (-) brand. now i have burnt about 2 copies okay but i can still never get a perfect copy?! i have heard that verbatim are good and to try burning at the lowest speed? so i will probably try all these different ways. i just basically need a good reliable settup so if any good software and burner models are good please advise me.

thanks for the prompt replys!

Stick with good quality media like Verbatim or Taiyo yuden. What Brand of burner are you using? some burners have a definite preference for either +R or -R. and the better quality Burners usually have a utility to set booktype to DVD Rom for burned DVD's this increases the disc's compaitability with standalone DVD Players.
