Update: All Things D has since confirmed that the delay is out of respect for Steve Jobs.

Google and Samsung have postponed their planned product launch at next week’s CTIA Fall event in San Diego. Though the company hasn't shared specifics of what they'll be unveiling, most analysts expect the duo to launch their next Nexus device, the much anticipated Samsung Galaxy Nexus Prime running Android's Ice Cream Sandwich release.

The companies sent out the following announcement regarding the delayed launch:

“Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.”

Neither issued a specific reason for the delay, although some in the media are suggesting they didn’t want such an event to coincide or interfere with funeral arrangements for Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. No date has been announced by the family for a service, however.

It’s highly unlikely that a last minute hiccup would arrive with the phone that is urgent enough to delay an unveiling. Perhaps the companies caught wind of the purported hands-on Nexus Prime video leak showcasing Ice Cream Sandwich and wished to delay the release to further build anticipation. Or maybe another carrier decided to host the phone at the last moment. As of now, it is believed that the Nexus will be a Verizon Wireless exclusive in the US.

We learned yesterday that the long-awaited ICS operating system will debut on the 9mm thin device. Additional features include a 4.65-inch curved glass Super AMOLED HD display running at 1280x720 resolution, a TI OMAP 4460 dual-core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of on-board storage, a 5MP rear camera and a front 1.3MP shooter, 1080p video capture, LTE / HSPA support depending on carrier, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, NFC and a 1,750 mAh battery.

Hmm, Google isn't evil? I must concede, they are a nice company if this news is accurate.

I hope this delay doesn't take too long. I'm eligible to upgrade tomorrow but I was waiting on this announcement before making a purchase. Hopefully its just the announcement that's delayed and not the actual release date. Call me insensitive but someones death, even Steve Jobs, is no reason to put everything on hold. They could pay their respects another way. If you're reading this Samsung, just announce the damn phone already. Get it in the hands of your loyal customers and put a well deserved dent in Apples profits. Why give them a chance to sell more iphones while they sit back and file their lawsuits?

I agree with You. There is something else behind this postpone...

I already bought HTC Sensation and don't care about stupid Samsung :D

Hey if I was stuck with a qualcomm SoC and 786mb of ram on a UI that is the most resource hungry out of any smartphone I'd pretend I wasn't jealous as well. Don't worry, your inferior phone isn't that bad, it just isn't very good.

Well I better get back to my SGS II.
