Google Maps gets high-res aerial imagery for 72 countries, regions

    According to the Google's Lat-Long Blog, the company has added new high-resolution aerial photography to Google Maps. This follows similar news from Microsoft a couple of weeks ago who also updated their own Bing Maps service with 215TB of high-resolution imagery.

    I remembered when I "found" Google Maps satellite overlay in about 2004 (?).

    I came back to work the next day, and we stared at the parking lot of our company trying to find people's cars. We found quite a few.

    I remember that was one of those moments where I thought, wow, technology is so amazing. Twenty years before the NSA or the KGB would be looking at stuff like this, now average people can see what their world looks like from space.
