It’s been more than a year in the making but Google Now has finally arrived on Chrome for desktop and notebook users. The service will allow users to see certain Now cards if they are signed into Chrome including weather, sports scores, commute traffic and event reminders.
Google Now on Chrome will show a subset of the Now cards that users already see on their mobile device based on location data. As such, some cards may not prove too terribly useful on your desktop or notebook if your mobile device is somewhere else.
We first caught wind that Google was bringing the service to the desktop back in 2012. It arrived in an early Chrome Canary build in April 2013 before becoming usable this past January in a more advanced build.
It has since graduated to the public release according to a Google+ post on the matter. The rollout is under way now and will continue over the next few weeks. If you’d rather skip the wait and jump right in on the action, simply visit the chrome://flags in your browser and toggle the service to “enabled.”
Should you want to disable the service at any time, navigate to the Notifications Center by clicking the bell icon in the lower right corner of the screen (on Windows) or the upper right of the screen (on Mac). From there, click the gear icon and uncheck the box next to Google Now.
