Google toolbar -- stopping automatic updates

  1. I downloaded Google Toolbar 6.6.1409.1944 and google keeps auto updating it to its newest version, which I hate. Is there any way to stop google's auto updates? I tried getting an answer thru them but no luck.
    Thanks.

    get a command prompt (start->run->cmd) and enter net start
    scroll the output and I think you will see Google Update ... this needs to disabled.

    Get Spybot S&D, install,

    use the mode->Advanced menu
    find the Tools on the left
    click Startups
    scroll thru the output looking for Google xxx
    uncheck the box [ ] in front of it and this process will not be started on your next boot.

    google toolbar automatic updates

    Thanks. Followed your directions and they worked until this evening when it updated automatically again. Checked the Spybot startup and the google update was still unchecked.

    I recall reading others also trying to get rid of it. i think it installs in several places (also including Task Scheduler) See if this might apply/help
