Graphics card prices are rising in China, reflecting a global trend

I'm so sick of this, I really wish cryptomining would just die out. Its really not been the revolutionary rebirth of currency some people said it would be.

So the suppliers aren't to blame? They expect to have the same amount of factories and not increase growth? The demand is there, the supplies are low. This is on purpose.

Actually, you might be better served by picking up a Series X or S instead. Sure the PS5 is often cited as having "better exclusives" (And while I disagree, this is subjective so fair enough) but given the direction Microsoft is going right now you've got far better chances of playing whatever games you happen to purchase for the Series console on a PC later on.

I even know there's ways to get a non-insignificant portion of PC games working on a Series X console: remember it can run a full featured version of Edge (read: chromium) and that enables both Microsoft VMs as well as other ones you can run on your own, includying subscription services like Geforce whatever (Can't remember what they call their cloud gaming service) on that same console.

It's a shame that for some people this might actually lead away from the world of customized PC gaming and into walled gardens running but well it was bound to happen: AAA PC gaming as an industry has no checks and balances and anyone can easily interfere with the free market and price out most consumers out of the necessary hardware to participate.
I experienced the same with my Series X and the new gaming pc im building.

loaded the xbox app, entered my creds, downloaded the games and voila, my saved games started right were I left off.

I dont like MS, but gaming wise, they are doing the right moves.

And cannot beat the value if GamePass.

So I either spend literally thousands to update my gaming or PC, maybe a little bit less on a gaming laptop. Or I go to my local retailer and pick up a PS5 which is now in stock for £500.

I’m going to have to learn how to use a controller again I think. I’m not spending so much extra just to play modern games. It’s really not worth it.
Using a controller is easy, aside from having to sacrifice aiming precision. It's going the other way that's really tough. I bought a high refresh monitor to go with my PC that I mostly use with an OLED TV, so that I could try and get into real PC gaming. I gave up fairly quickly, just couldn't get used to moving with aswd and then hitting all the other keys nearby with little finger etc. I even borrowed a friend's one handed gaming keyboard and still found that too difficult. Controllers are simply far more ergonomic.

Nvidia`s LHR cards are bought in a frenzy, even if miners only succeeded in bypassing the tech by 70%. So, they`re not tremendous for mining right now and if you add 2x 2.5x MSRP the ROI from ETH will take more than half a year for one card. Even if you bet ETH will go 10k soon, the ROI is still pretty heavy. And so, I`m guessing these cards are not bought primarily by miners, but by gamers. As long as gamers are so desperate, that they`re willing to pay 2x or more MSRP, this situation will never normalize, even if supply improves, ETH tanks and so on.

It’s guess it’s just what you’re used to. I find using anything but WASD a pain in the bum! I have an Xbox controller and I do try and use it but my hands always hurt after a while and I end up putting it down and just using the mouse and keyboard. I guess I like Nintendo because you don’t aim so much in their games and when you do it has motion controls which are really good.

But it’s moot, I just went to my local ”game” and all the PS5s are gone. They won’t take preorders and when you do buy one you have to buy a bundle that includes a second controller, a headset, charging kit and a load of other stuff I don’t want and they charge £700 for it. In some kind of attempt to stop scalpers. They did have 100 Xbox series X units though which is annoying!

I guess il be back on java minecraft for the foreseeable lol.

I was genuinely a bit all over it when I paid £540 for my 3060 Ti but since buying it 3 weeks ago all I've seen is the prices go up.

The way I see it, this situation we are living is the new normal and any future mining crash and GPU depreciation would be the exception rather than the rule.

Well if you decide to live in such countries you get what you deserve, which in this case is no card.
Dude, do you even hear yourself talking?

Just tell me how does your logic work? Forget ignorance, let's talk about logic...

How can we all (all the people on this planet), here I'll make it easier: how can half the people on this planet fit/go and live into 2-3 privileged countries so they all have the same opportunities???

There is no option here for everyone, about where they are born or where they live, so don't pretend you're right on high horse because your logic is null, at this point it's getting ridiculous what you're saying.

Just be glad it works for you, but don't step on others because they don't have the same privileges. Again, you're in the minority here and be thankful for that privileged minority without bashing or boasting without reason.

Just be prepared to use the Series X/S controller with a wire as it is a really annoying issue that isn't being properly fixed.

Yeah I reckon gamers buy up more cards than people think. PC gaming has been gaining in popularity every year since I can remember and then all of a sudden in 2020 world governments ordered people to stay at home. Also for a few years prior to the pandemic prices kept rising and I think a lot of people were waiting for a price cut, which Nvidia did briefly deliver before the scalpers took advantage.

We should be happy. But the truth is I miss how PC gaming was more niche.

Most countries that are poor are poor because the people there are lazy and vote for big government which drains all the wealth out of the country, you don't need to move to other countries, just don't be lazy.

From what I observed, GPU prices dropped significantly in China when the government started to ban mining. The price drop is quite drastic and often lower than anywhere else in the world. So considering that supply is still limited and demand still strong, it is possible that sellers in China will also revise prices since people are willing to pay for it.

That's only partially true, it's not that simple, but I agree in general about that.

Yet it's besides the original subject: opportunity for buying at MSRP for everyone in the world.

I paid 650 euro for my top if the line XFX Merc RX 6700 XT (which has the MSRP of 570 euros, declared by XFX), last month.

There was no option for me to buy the reference model at 480 euros (let's forget about $ to euro difference), but also I was not able to buy the XFX Merc at it's declared MSRP of 570 euro either, so considering that was the best price I could find for a premium tier GPU (it's one of the best 6700 XTs) I paid 80 euros more, as scalping tax.

But it was worth it in these circumstances, it was a "low" scalping tax, compared to other prices.

If I had the option to buy a reference one at 480 euros, I would have done it, even if the reference GPU is a little inferior to my version, the XFX is not 170 euro worth of a better GPU. That's the price of 6800XT, actually.

So it's not about being poor, it's about equal opportunities, which are not the same all over the world.
Not everyone can buy at MSRP (actually most can't) and those that can (like you) should not act like you do and blame everyone else. Your view about this aspect is very wrong.

~20% if the price is VAT.

question for the experts. Are crypto currencies quantum encrypted? If not what are people putting there futures in? Crypto currencies are there to kill the USD with freedoms and independence imo cash is still king! Cryptomining is not only contributing to gpu price inflation, but also chip shortages for vehicles as well as energy prices to go up. Cryptomining is causing inflation exponentially! The 1% will market bitcoin will go to million dollars because they want your hard earned usd. Thoughts?

I'm just reading all these comments while my three 3070s are mining and have been making me $400-600 monthly. People who keep blaming mining lol. Yo, blame Nvidia.. they caused the shortage, they focused on mining cards which are useless, they are creating their own inflation. If you don't want to believe that and continue blaming mining go for it, let me know how that works out for you. :)

It's also my gaming PC but while I don't use it, it works for me. Catch 22 that.

The price I paid had no VAT, it was a "nicer scalper", who only charged me 80 euro more over the XFX Merc MSRP. So 650 euro was the actual price.

There were no RX 6700 XT or any other GPUs (even less from nvidia which are more expensive) as "cheap" in the stores in my part of EU, one month ago (all were more expensive) and now they are even more expensive than that, yet again.

MSRP is available only for a few countries in a few shops. That's the sad reality.

You have to have money to make money. Not everyone can buy one 3070, let alone 3. Even at MSRP is above 50% of gamers budget. If you do the math for scalper prices then forget about it...

I was forced to mine too (casually, not 24/7), with my 2 PCs (gaming & home-office) but with the only GPUs I had: a GTX 1080 and 1060 and after I made $500 mining, I bought the RX 6700 XT. It's a crazy new world and we have to adapt, yes.

Btw do you have all 3 GPUs in one PC? Or multiple/mining rig?

I have one 3070 on my sons gaming PC, and I have two 3070 in my gaming PC. They aren't SLA so I literally just have one card installed not being used but only for mining, while I game and mine with the second card. I also have my i9 mining along with my sons i7. But I agree with your statement need to spend money to make money.

As for the next comments about my power bill... Listen it's only gone up about $20-$30 before you start crying and saying I feel bad for your bill. But I'm earning more then enough to compensate for it.

So you bought from a scalper who would have paid the VAT already?

Yeah, depending on the region the power bill can be expensive or not. I'm in the same situation as you, but a lower bill, since I have lower Hashrate and lower power consumption, from using only 2 GPUs.

I also don't plan to turn my house into an oven and start buying more GPUs and to make mining rigs. I just do this casually to compensate for the crazy prices we have now, and probably these kind of prices will exist for a lot longer still.

Yeah, probably, but what does it matter? We all have to pay VAT in EU if you buy from a store. If he payed or I did, the price is the same. So I don't get your point...

GPUs (and mostly everything else actually) are more expensive here, not only because we can't find at MSRP (so easy, or at all, depending on country), but also because of the euro conversion and because of VAT. So...

Exactly! I literally use the mining money and invest that only into Crypto I never have used my own money. And with that I have made over $5k this year alone, waiting for that bull market to really kick off now this quarter and double or triple that.

I know my cards do about 62 hashrate each.

That's the price of having big government, making scarce items even more expensive, lazy countries tend to have bigger governments.
