I have a writeup on testing and choosing a DNS, but the forum noted is locked down.

Absolutely. It's locked so it doesn't get cluttered (said another way, it's locked so solid guides get the attention they deserve). Feel free to create a new thread anywhere (Storage and Networking, for instance) and then link it here or PM me. I'll move it.
