We knew it had to happen sooner or later, but a bunch of guys in Kitchener, Ontario had been working on making a real lighsaber for years now. I'm sure that many here are already aware of them but I didn't find any reference to this and they've finally made the real McCoy. It makes the little geek boy in me giggle with delight!
Their first attempt used coiled wire:
Their second attempt was a metal rod that would glow yellow-hot:
Their third attempt uses a real, retractable plasma beam that can change colour. Here's the build video:
