Those thinking the Halo franchise has become a bit long in the tooth now have little ammunition for their argument. That’s because Microsoft recently revealed that Halo 5: Guardians has become the fastest-selling Halo game of all-time.

Microsoft said the title raked in more than $400 million in global game and hardware sales in its first week, pushing the franchise past the $5 billion milestone. In comparison, Halo 4 generated just $300 million in its first seven days on shelves back in 2012.

The launch was also the biggest for an Xbox One game thus far, earning a Guinness World Record for the most watched video game launch broadcast in the process. Microsoft said more than 330,000 uniques tuned in for the event. Halo fans have logged more than 21 million hours of gameplay in the first week, 12 million hours of which were in campaign mode.

Xbox chief Phil Spencer said the success of Halo 5: Guardians is a testament to the innovative work from the entire team at 343 Industries to bring this installment to Xbox One and the incredible community of fans who have come to love the story, characters and gameplay central to the franchise.

Halo: Combat Evolved debuted on November 15, 2001, as a launch title alongside the original Xbox. Since that time, we’ve seen the release of nearly a dozen additional games and spin-offs in the franchise.

What im most impressed with so far is how much they are listening. People particularly hated one of the maps and today they removed it for a while to tweak it. Usually it takes weeks or months for developers to take action. They are actively responding on the games reddit and such too.

Didn't the guys from funhaus make a video about this a few days ago talking about the weird numbers and weird ways (or you can say creative?) in which MS added the words "best" next to halo5?

Apparently there also was an exploit to go beyond the bounds of the map. Plus the powerup was stupidly placed so no one could get it...

The powerup was plenty accessible with the right tactics, although it blows my mind why they put it in a place where everyone would suicide to try and get it to begin with

Well, after a few failed attempts by most, it was just a pretty reminder of suicides lol

So Halo 5 wins the title eh ? I don't think it makes a difference if its long in the tooth or not, people flock mindlessly to the power houses that are, CoD, Halo, Battlefield.

Personally for me it was Medal Of Honor, Halo 1, CoD4 Modern Warfare, Battlefield Bad Company 2... and then it all just got repetitive and boring after that. I could play those 4 games again and again. Halo 2 and its plastic machine guns, which you could dual wield to feel twice as sick when you used them... nice.

But you won't stop the sales of these things increasing. Populations increase, more kids. More adults are kids and still play games more and more as generations pass... it is not really surprising.

Correct me if I am wrong but is there not a game out on the 10th that will make this post irreverent?

halo 5 is the biggest launch in franchise history...as in the halo franchise, not any franchise...Literally mentioned in the second sentence of the article.

Well, that's what happens when anyone who wants to play together has to buy their own copy... Just saying.
